Types of tourist accommodation establishments in Vietnam

Tourist accommodation establishments are places that provide services to serve the accommodation needs of tourists.
In Article 48, the 2017 Law on Tourism regulates the following types of tourist accommodation establishments:
  1. Hotel.
  2. Tourist villa.
  3. Tourist apartment.
  4. Cruise ship for tourist accommodation.
  5. Tourist motel.
  6. The house has rooms for rent to tourists.
  7. Tourist camping site.
  8. Other tourist accommodation establishments.
Article 21 of Decree 168/2017/ND – CP details the types of tourist accommodation establishments as follows:
1. Hotel: Tourist accommodation establishment that ensures quality facilities, equipment and necessary services to serve tourists; including: Resort hotels, roadside hotels, floating hotels and city hotels.
a) Resort hotels: Tourist accommodation establishments are built in blocks or complexes of villas, low-rise houses, apartments, in areas with beautiful natural landscapes;
b) Roadside hotel: Tourist accommodation facility near roads, with parking to serve the accommodation needs of guests using road vehicles (motorbikes, cars) to travel or rest between long journeys;
c) Floating hotel: A tourist accommodation establishment anchored on the water and able to move when necessary;
d) City hotels: Tourist accommodation facilities built in urban areas to serve tourists.
2. Tourist villa: The villa has equipment and amenities for tourists to rent and can serve themselves during their stay.
3. Tourist apartment: The apartment has necessary equipment and services to serve tourists. Guests can self-catering during their stay.
4. Tourist accommodation ships: Water transport vehicles with bedrooms to serve the accommodation needs of tourists.
5. Tourist motel: Accommodation facility with necessary equipment and amenities to serve tourists.
6. Housing with rooms for rent to tourists: Housing with an area equipped with equipment and amenities for tourists to rent; Guests live with the host family.
7. Tourist camping ground: The area is planned in a place with beautiful natural landscapes, infrastructure, and necessary facilities and services to serve camping guests.
For each type of accommodation, there are minimum requirements for technical facilities and services specified in Decree 168/2017/ND-CP and amended and supplemented in Article 5 of the Decree. 142/2018/ND-CP, specifically as follows:
Firstly, for hotels
  1. Have a minimum of 10 bedrooms; There is a reception desk and shared bathroom.
  2. There is parking for guests at resort hotels and motels.
  3. There are kitchens, dining rooms and catering services for resort hotels, floating hotels, and roadside hotels.
  4. There are beds, mattresses, blankets, pillows, face towels, and bath towels; Change mattress covers, blanket covers, pillow covers, face towels, and bath towels when there are new guests.
  5. There is staff on duty 24 hours a day.
Second, for tourist villas
  1. There are beds, mattresses, blankets, pillows, face towels, and bath towels; Change mattress covers, blanket covers, pillow covers, face towels, and bath towels when there are new guests.
  2. There is staff on duty 24 hours a day.
  3. There is a living area, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, toilet.
Third, for tourist apartments
  1. There are beds, mattresses, blankets, pillows, face towels, and bath towels; Change mattress covers, blanket covers, pillow covers, face towels, and bath towels when there are new guests.
  2. There is a living area, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, toilet.
Fourth, for tourist accommodation ships
  1. There is a reception area, bedroom (cabin), bathroom, toilet, kitchen, dining room and food service.
  2. There are beds, mattresses, blankets, pillows, face towels, and bath towels; Change mattress covers, blanket covers, pillow covers, face towels, and bath towels when there are new guests.
Fifth, for tourist motels
  1. There is a reception area and bedroom; There is a bathroom and toilet.”

Sixth, for houses with rooms for rent to tourists

Seven, for tourist camping
  1. There is a reception area, tent pitching area, camp, bathroom, and common restrooms.
  2. There is a first aid medicine cabinet
  3. There is a security guard on duty when there are guests.​
